Every two years, a piano competition in contemporary music for young pianists is arranged in Fribourg, Switzerland. The 8th competition took place on 4–5 June this year. The 30 participating pianists between the ages of six and 18 years old came from nine countries. The arranger of the competition is Mr Michel Runtz, Association Jeune-Musique, and it was held in the aula of the Music Conservatory of Fribourg. President of the jury was Rena Shereshevskaya from Russia.
The Dag Wirén Foundation’s collaboration with the competition takes the form of a special prize awarded to the pianist who gives the best performance of music by Dag Wirén. The jury decided to award the prize (300 CHF) to 14-year-old Antoine Arnold from Switzerland, who performed Ironiska småstycken op 19 no 5. The prize was presented to him by the Chair of the board of the Dag Wirén Foundation, Roland Sandberg.
